Hello there!

I'm new to this community and I'm hoping you can solve a problem for me.

I drive a 56 number plate CZC 1.5. I've had it for three years and I started to experience some problems with the boot and the retractable roof. When I open the boot it makes a clicking sound and the 'catches' on either side of the boot have moved. I have to re-set the catches manually (flicking them with my finger) so I can close the boot.

Photos of catches before and after here:
http://imgur.com/a/2RcDV

As a result (I assume), I now can't open the roof. It will only go so far and then stop (giving me a warning beep or two). The roof will close from this position.

Contacting my local Mitsubishi dealer (didn't buy the car from them originally) has had no success as I am still waiting to hear from them via email and my local (very reliable) garage won't touch it without schematics for the electrics.

What do you suggest? Is it possible to get a CZC manual? I'm finding it difficult to find a Mitsubishi specialist locally who'll deal with this problem.

Thanks, in advance.

Edit: Managed to find a Mitsubishi garage within reasonable travelling distance and the problem has been fixed.

Hi I have a 2008 CZC which we have owned from new, it has exactly the same problem as the post in this thread.
Regrettably, although the member had this resolved there is no explanation as to what the problem was or how to overcome it!

Can anyone help with this please, the issue is exactly as described (he actually explained it very well, down the the photos etc etc)

Many Thanks in advance

Richard

My girlfriends CZC2 has exactly the same issue, it's so frustrating.

I posted about it in the Technical section here : viewtopic.php?t=29136

If anyone has any solutions i'd love to hear them.

Si.

Can you tell us what the actual full issue was and what the garage repaired please to give us an idea what the actual issue is that causes this problem ?

Thank you

The issue was the electrics/wires in the boot. I can't recall specifically what the garage did but it was some sort of repair to these wires. Rich400 is your best bet for a detailed answer so I hope he replies soon.

It seems there are a few of us with the same issues. Glad i'm not alone!

Having spoken at length to the service technician at the Mitsi dealer when we collected ours, he also suggested that it could be a wiring fault in the boot.

They couldn't diagnose that far with ours as the window regulator was coming up with a fault on the diagnostics and wouldn't go any further. I'm still doubtful that the regulator is faulty, but that's another story.

The technician said that of the few they've had in with roof issues, a couple have been due to broken wires in the boot area. The ECU for the roof is behind the back seats (under some trim I believe). The wires from the ECU go around the boot lid (n/s) in a sheath which can flex when the boot is opened. They repaired one with a broken wire in this area before apparently.

I'm hoping that Rich400 can give us some specifics of where to look. I'm not really sure where to start as I can't find a detailed wiring schematic anywhere.

Si.

After reading the above comments about the wiring in the boot - i have had a closer look as we did not have the car from new - it looks like the cables have been repaired previously as there is black electrical tape on a large section of the cables that i can see - will investigate further and let everyone know the outcome - fingers etc crossed :D

That sounds promising!

If you do find anything suspect then please take some photos. It might give me a better idea where to look before I start tearing the boot apart :)

I still haven't had chance to check the wiring on ours, but I did find these photos on one of the Facebook groups showing where the wiring is likely to have broken if that is the cause.

I'm still in search of a wiring diagram or workshop manual, but hours of searching have been fruitless.

Hope this helps someone.

Ok, I have an update...

Yesterday I took the panel off the inside of the boot lid. I metered out the wires from all of the connectors inside the boot lid back to the connector block located behind the n/s tail lamp.

I found a continuity fault between the green wire that goes from the connector block to the boot latch plug (the only plug that goes to the boot latch with 4 wires). If you look at the photos in my previous post it's the one that is stripped back.

I wanted to properly check all the other wires, so I carefully removed the whole wiring harness from the car and took it inside to check it out more carefully. This wasn't really necessary, but made the repair easier.

As soon as I pulled the woven protective sheath back as far as I could I found a complete break in the green wire! I metered out the wire from the break to both of the connectors to check there weren't any other breaks that weren't visible. The rest of the wire tested fine, as did all the others in the harness.

I stripped back the ends of the break and soldered the wires back together and insulated with some heatshrink tubing. Then carefully put it back into the car, taking care to cable-tie all the original points to make sure the wiring wouldn't get trapped when the boot or roof were operated.

I closed the boot and then opened it again to check I hadn't broken anything or trapped any wires re-installing the harness. It opened and closed perfectly, and more importantly the latches on either side of the boot didn't move to the wrong positions when the boot opened!

The final check was to try the roof. I was skeptical of that working as I figured it would probably require re-initialising at the dealers after all the messing about i'd done with it. To my surprise the windows and roof all worked perfectly too, and no more damn beeping!!

So there you go, finally fixed. I'm so glad that I didn't let the Mitsu dealer replace the window regulator and boot latch as they suggested!

Hope this helps someone else in the same situation.

Si.

Thank you so much when my son has the time we will try the same - happy days for you and hopefully others too :-)

OK - bad news for us i am afraid - had the wiring loom out striped it back and checked all cables today no breaks at all - so that's not the problem for us even though the issue is the same with the roof / boot we think it may be related to the motorised boot latch so thats the next thing to check - does anyone know of a good source for 2nd hand parts ????

That's unlucky. Did you just visually inspect the wires, or did you check them with a multimeter as well?
