Now then you lot,I have noticed a lot more lately that more and more of you want your own OBD code readers to save yourselves 50-80 quid in diagnostic fees from the dealers.

It's time to clarify what works and what doesn't so you guys n gals don't waste your money.

ALL THE CHEAP ONES ON EBAY/ARGOS ETC ETC DON'T WORK ON YOUR CAR

The only one that does but is limited to certain systems is evoscan and sometimes Mitsulogger, although the latter is more for tuning than diagnostics.

Now some independant garages may have a system called launch which is a very good tool indeed and has the full factory diagnostics built into it which is good. These places are few and far between though.

Snap-On,who everyone thinks is 'the best' lmao has only had diesel capability on the solus and above range of code readers and the diagnostic capability is zero.I know cos I've been there and used it and said it was ***** to the regional rep.

If all you want to do is figure out why your engine light is on,just earth out pin 1 in the OBD socket and count the flashes from the engine light(most cases works a treat).
Once you have them you have the code generated and can ask a specific question which we can all help you with.

Please note this is all aimed at CJ owners only, pre CJ needs the launch or mitsy and the CZ mitsy(unless someone can add another make that works on the CZ colts)

Awesome!!!

quick question, when grounding out pin 1, is this to any earth point on the car? or is it to another pin, as i read somewhere that if u put a paper clip between pins 1 and 4 it should work, but when i tried this it didnt work lol.

CZ's i can't speak for as i quit mitsy before anything aftermarket was available for them.

Pont12,you can do it that way too but as long as the connection is earthed the eml should flash your code

Stu - I'm looking at buying one as since I sorted the EGR valve issue on the tank, but would like it to also work on the borg (would it even work with an aftermarket ECU (GEMS) or do I need to go down a different route?), can you recommend something?

Cheers dude!

Hi! Hope you guys can help me.
My engine light have been lighting for a while so I followed the guide and put a small coppercable into pin 1 och 4 in the OBD socket to get the fault codes. And now the strange thing comes: I turned the key and I heard the beep, but the engine light didnĀ“t start to pulse but the ABS light started to pulse?? I get the codes 21, 23 and 24 from the ABS light (which seems to mean the ABS sensors are bad). Afterwards i took the cable of from the OBD socket and started the car. The engine light lighted as usual and the ABS light was not lighting as usual as well. What can this be?? All I want is to read the fault codes (as many others of you).
I have a Colt CJ from 2000.

I also use an ELM327 Bluetooth Slim version along with TorqueScan App on my CZ2 AMT. I also use the ELM327 Identifier to ensure that any new ELM327 is not the cloned faulty units (usually they identify as V1.5 which does not exist). (ELM327 are versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.3a, 1.4b, 2.1 or 2.2. Anything else is fake).
