Hi everyone,

I have just bought a 2004 Colt and know it has a cd player, but wondered ed if anyone had managed to wire in an mp3 (headphone jack) cable?

If so, any images/guidance?

I don't think anyone really has tried anything like that unlike what the Aygo's have (its stock for them) so either get am FM transmitter for little mony or buy a new head unit for least hassle and best sound

Well, I do have a different head unit (a decent Pioneer one), which has an input for mp3 players. It came out of my Micra (RIP).

I just wasn't sure if a) the original mitsi head unit would come out,
and b) if it would leave a "normal" sized gap for a standard head unit like my pioneer...

It will come out and im sure you should be able to buy a din adapter for the dash so you can fit the aftermarket headunit, try a decent motor factors or halfords for the din adaptor I expect they can sort you one ;)

Hmmm...
It's rather annoying that the display cannot be changed when using an aftermarket HU, but I completely understand why (lack of a controller button).
I am now tempted to go back to my original investigation of finding a lead that can be plugged into the original head unit.
Again, I know i've been down this road, but b3n2705 seems to think it might be possible, and I would have thought that it SHOULD be easier/cause less issues/be relatively cheap.

It's annoying that there is apparently no extra input on the back of the original mitsi HU. I mean with all the lovely little touches added here and there (like the 12v adapter in the boot for crying out loud), that they would neglect to add a simple left + right RCA (composite) input on the back of the HU.

It comes down to:
Lose the MPG average/Current MPG/Fuel Remaining scrolling option,
Find a cable to connect in or
Live without the MP3 player.

I hate discisions like this.

Colt Black 1.1 5dr
For a 3 cylinder it's suprisingly fast at the top end, just takes a while to get there.

But ultimately i'm a happy buyer!

Hi Rumple,

I bought a central console aux input (usually seen in the CZC, but should work with all CZs, see here) from these guys ages ago now, and had my local dealership fit it. Result - I can now play my iPod with better sound quality than using an FM transmitter, so all is good... :D

How much did it cost you?
Did they charge fitting?
Where did you get it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am SICK of FM radio.
I remembered why i bought an mp3 player after 2 days with it.

I can't remember how much the console bit cost, to be honest; memory says that it was under 40 quid, but I don't know how true that is. Give Court and Smith a ring (I've linked to them above as 'these guys'); they do fit if you're local to Brighton, but I don't know how much they charge. My local dealer charged me a half-hour's labour to install it (£45).

: New colt ralliart on way!
You can get a faceplate adapter fform Mitsubishi dealers that fits perfect and looks right, I had one in my old car.

They definetly do a adapter to plug in a Ipod etc aswell.

If in doubt I know these guys are helpful - Paul, works out of the melksham dealer but does 'Mitsubishi direct' which is mainly Ralliart as in Evo's hes meant to be the top Ralliart guy to deal with. he sold me the Colt Ralliart when my dealer couldnt be bothered to help, knows his stuff and will put you in touch with the right person to get those bits - cant remember his number but do a search on the lancer register for mitsubishi direct hes a trader!

I fitted mine myself. Cut the old cigarette lighter socket in half, had to solder it back together again. Then spent a day trying to figure out how to push the pins in properly. All in all, I'm happy I saved the labour cost :D

How difficult was it to remove the centre console? Thanks.

shoot, didn't see this...

the centre console is quite easy to remove. reach under the fan speed control and there should be a little space so you can pull that piece of plastic away. Then grab the sides of the centre console and squeeze whilst pulling, it should then come away. the cigarette lighter is attached by a plug which you can pull out.

Quite easy, ask if you have any more questions...

The standard fit cd player has an aux input, by pushing and holding the cd button the display changes to aux. I bought a pair of cheap h/phones from the pound shop, they cost £1, cut the ear peices off and found some pinis to crimp on. these push in to the connector on the the back of the unit, cant remember which ones, but if anyone wants to know I caqn pull the head unit out to look.
