I`m thinking about connecting diagnosing plug to my laptop.
The previous owner left a cable in the car that looks like OBD I/II to 15 pin serial.

Now, the only 15pin serial to usb plug I found is designed for joysticks. Not sure if this will work.

If not - tried looking on internet and couldn`t find a proper OBD1 to PC cable. Might be just me

Lets say I`ll get some software for data logging/reseting ECU errors etc. Found loads of it on internet either free or some on ebay.

Now, whenever I plug something to my laptop via usb - Windows tries to install drivers to make it work. Hope it won`t be a problem in this case...

I know many people uses 'palms' instead of laptops.
Anyone got some experience with it ?

Hmmm your serial adapter is male and not DB-9(9 pin), that wouldnt connect to a pc anyway as DB-9 's are male pc end, well on olllllllld pc's mine hasnt had one for yonks. That layout on your cable was used for midi/controller ports on audio cards DA-15.

That converter proberly wont work unless it comes with software and that port really is to be connected to a DA-15 midi/game port, just buy a obd to usb usb cable, theres a few on ebay.
