Again me with yet another question :P...

I went to play football today with some guys, and at the car park spot, three spaces away in the bushes there was an abandoned car standing there.

I just curious is there any way to find out who the owner is and if he still owns/wants the vehicle?

Apparently it's in the same spot for last 4 months. It's in pretty rough shape either.A dented wheel, bit of rust and broken aerial, looks like someone just left it thre to rotten.

Just curious,if it's possible to claim it somehow (shame there is no finders-keepers rule haha),the spot where the car is is completely surrounded by trees and bushes, but pretty close to football pitch and houses, but looks liek it just rottens there and like keepr of that car lost hope to restore it to glory or something :P...

Don't get me wrong,I don't want to take someone's car as maybe the owner is in hospital or something,I am only curious.Would love to take care of thatcar.

And for all of you that are thinking "What's the fuss?" - it is a Cadillac De-Ville Coupe, looks like it's from 1966-67.And I am absolutely in love with all classic american cars from 50-60-70,I'm a complete american muscles/classic car nutter :D...Hence the curiosity...

Thanks, and please don't call me a snitcher or thief I am just curious that all!!!

It is possible to claim it I've personally never done it but one of the guys I live with managed to claim one of those little fiat's I don't know how he did it but you send of to the dvla they attempt to contact the owner and if a sufficient time passes it gets signed over to you

If you apply for the V5 to become the registered keeper, DVLA will attempt to contact the current registered keeper to make them aware someone is trying to register it in their name.
If DVLA don't hear from the RK, they will issue a new V5 in your name. However you will only be the RK, you will not be the legal owner.

If you chuck a load of money at it and the legal owner comes forward you will loose the car and your invested money.

Try and find the owner from local houses and/or businesses, also worth trying the local American car club

maybe leave a note on it? ask around people from the area. if its been there that long. and it belongs to someone around there, people will definatly know where it came from

@ jakeymears - that's great I didn't know it is possible and sounds like easy thing too!But for now all I want to do is identify the owner if he lives somewhere around or something. As said, love to put my hands on it,but don't want to be a snitcher :P...If nobody knows nothing around the area or in nearby houses, then I will call DVLA.Which will be easy because the car got a Reg Palte (no tax though).

@ Hybrids - So you mean if anything,I cannot be the owner of the car?

@ supraking - trouble is,it's hidden behind trees and slightly in the bushes, nobody goes there I guess. And yes I will go there later today and try to gather some info about it,just gona research around the area.

@ sptb - :)

@ anthony1950 - pics for you and rest of you guys:

Just got back from the place where the car is with some interesting news.

Went there, knocked to the house nearest the car, asked the guy about it and he said he knows the owner.Apparently the car belongs to the family that are american car enthusiasts, and they got a few classic american cars, but left this one aside as they can't afford to restore it at the moment. So I left this guy my number and my name, and he will forward it to the owner so he will contact me.He wasn't sure if they want to sell it thought.Even if,I think the price will definitely be out of my range as it's still quite valuable even in that state...

And the state of it...Ahhh.Rust and paint bobbles all around,so needs a complete paint/body restoration, inside stinks and interior needs complete refurbish imo,and the engine (I popped the hood up out of curiosity) seen a better days.No battery, shattered cam belts, smells of dump and looks like spider city :P...

Still I guess they won't release it for less than £1000,and guess they will want even more for it...Shame really,I got really excited for a moment heh :/...

Hope they will get back to me,might at least check their other cars hehe :D...

looks a lovely motor. glad your on its trail now. but i think your right in thinking alot of money will have to change hands. my guess would be 3-5k even in that state.

depends how fast you work. i could probably strip the exterior and interior out in two days tops. (well with my car anyway, prob abit longer with something unknown) if its just a case of cleaning things and refitting it wont take too long. its when you end up refurbing/replacing that things get dragged out
