Post subject:  shrt tutorial, how to split fl headlights. FINAL UPDATE,18JAN

Okay so firstly I will apologize for not so good quality pics, blame photbucket lol .

I split mine today so I can do a halo conversion. As some people already know, the lenses dont just simply pop off, thers some horrible grey stuff holding it in that you need to warm up to soften it. Anyways here's some pics illustrating my steps.

Remove these two screws first and take the indicator bulb out. ( i left the main bulb in to keep bits from falling in. )
Image

Now some people have done this bit kinda weird (as in putting it in oven) but anyhow , I hung the headlights up above the radiator in work and left it for half an hour.(time will vary on the heat the rad let's off ) by then the grey stuff was nice and soft.
Image

Also pay attention this bit as it has quite a thick bit of the glue stuff in it and is holding the silver backing in which comes out with the lens
Image

Now the taggs holding the lens should be warm enough to bend back . Now get a thin wide solid piece of metal ( I used a tool I found at work . Try to avoid screw drivers as they can be a bit thin ) . Pry back the lens and take your time as you could easily crack your lens . ( haven't got a pic of what i used) all i can say is be patient and make shure the glue is nice and soft at all times

Once you have the lens off, there are another two small screws to split the silver backing .
Image

And that's it ! :D . All you need to do now is warm the glue back up and cut it off with a Stanley blade and wipe the excess off with a hot damp rag.

To re-seal I would use clear mastic. It wil be easyer to get back off in future and it seals just as good .:D happy modding

Almost done now lads , hopefully I will be able to get them on sometime next week :D only the halos realy to fit on now

Heres the latest ;
Fitted daytime sidelights , they look blue but they are actually white :s
Image

And this is how they would look with completely clear lenses . Some people might be thinking wtf about the two strips lol but you cant see them because they are behind the angled cut bits of the lenses .

Post subject:  Re: short tutorial on how to split fl headlights. NEW UPDATE !

Started to attempt fixing the halos into the headlights and I have temporary glued them in using hot model glue (which isn't any good lol ) so here's how I got around it . Before hand I was seeing where to fix it to and memorized the best fit . Then I took the centre bulb cover out and placed in a vice in the same position as in the headlight, here's the screw to remove it and a pic of it in the vice when I was holding the halo while waiting for the crappy glue to set lol

Put it all together for the big test :s lmao

So here is the right hand side (only managed this 1 today ) in the light without anything on .

Here is the headlight in the dark with daylight sidelights and halos on :D

And here's my face pic , just halos on :D

So do you now not have a bulb in the sidelight part then?, just the halo and new addition strip ones?, they both come on as sidelights?.

Wel I was thinkin for MOT purposes to keep the sidelights in and use h4s as normal , then I can wire the new lights up seperatly and put two rocker switches hidden in the pull down cubby hole by your right knee . That way I can have any light on seperatly :D

Post subject:  Re: shrt tutorial, how to split fl headlights.COMPLETE HALO CONV!

Nice going mate :)

I think the SMDs look abit poor in raw form :(, would have been better if they had a fascia to cover the circuit. You should of painted the circuit black or white :D

Wow, the above pic reminds me of the below pic haha
