Hi I have a 2007 colt plus and I can open the tailgate with the remote but I now can't close it with the remote. It just beeps 4 times and then nothing and I have to close it manually. It also has a button switch on the tailgate to close it but this also now isn't working. any help would be appreiciated.

most likely is the solenoid in the tailgate is broken I assume the doors lock and open ok with the remote. Is there a seperate button that lets you open the tailgate without opening the doors? If so does the button for opening the doors open the tailgate aswell if not it is most likely the tailgate solenoid then or the wiring to it has been damage or corroded or a connection has got damp in it and is not making a good contact

When you say close, are you referring to the Lock locking, or are you saying when you press a button, the actual tail gate opens or folds down its self?

If you do mean the automating open/close system, does it do anything at all? Could be the obstacle sensor?

Excuse my ignorance but what is fob?. I know it's not a problem with the button on the key as it won't work with my wife's key either, nor will it close using the button switch on the tailgate.
Any help here appreciated. Also where is the tailgate sensor located?

key fob it is the bit with the buttons on. but if it dose not work with both then it is a different problem. I meant that if the battery is getting low it gives an indication ie with central locking system the indicators will flash rapidly when you press the lock button to warn that the battery has reached its end of life. I did look for information about faults with the auto tailgate system but cant find any information about fault finding on the service manual I have. So I cant even say I know how the system works. If the tailgate works with the switch in the car then as Barlow said, there must be a sensor which stops it closing if there is an obstruction. As a safety device to stop it from doing any damage. so maybe that is the problem. You need a Mitsi trained mechanic that is familiar with the system as it seems that it was a one off system not fitted to a many Colt models as I cannot find any reference to it other than the 2007 plus model and that was in Australia
Sorry not much help from me
Chris

I've just had this same issue on my Mother in Laws Colt. Auto / Electric Tailgate would not close using the remote or using the button in the base of the tailgate. Auto open from the remote was not working either. Searched around on the net a bit and this was the only thread I found but did not really have a solution. In the case of this car, Mum in Law had been searching for the bonnet (hood) release and had been poking around under the steering wheel. There is a small shelf there and at the left hand side at the back of the shelf is a push button that disables the automatic tailgate function. Give the button a push and all is fixed :winkthumb Hope this helps some others.
